Since I now carry my iPod Touch everywhere, I only need to additionally carry a cellphone to make calls and send SMS. So, why carry a heavy and clunky smartphone like a Nokia N80 when all I need is a simple cellphone? That's why I bought the cheap, light and simple Nokia 2630.
I can have access to all my information (like calendar, contacts, photos, mails and movies) on the iPod Touch, so there's no real need to sync the Nokia 2630 with my Mac...except, for the contacts. I have quite a few contacts (more or less 200) on my Mac's Address Book and I wouldn't like to add each one by hand to the cellphone.
Since the Nokia N80 had automatic synchronization to the Mac using iSync, I had my hopes up for the Nokia 2630. Sadly, it doesn't. But fear not, as Google is always available to save the day: I found this blog post that explained just how you can hack iSync to work with the Nokia 2630. Simple and fast...and it worked perfectly. All contacts (and calendar too, if you want) got synchronized to the Mac almost instantly.

i cant make it work. i follow the instructions point by point but doesnt work. help
What version of Mac OS X are you running? I did this on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and it worked perfectly.
It worked fine for me on Leopard...
Thanks for the tip
good to know that iSync works for the 2630 (I'm thinking about buying one; similar situation here - my iPod touch needs a simple phone companion).
Please could ou tell me: are address book's fotos also synced and displayed on the 2630? and is it possible to take pictures for contacts with the 2630's camera and then sync them to the address book?
Thanks!
Sadly, no, but I think it's a limitation on the side of the phone. The previous Nokia that I had (N80) synched the photos perfectly, but this one doesn't.
too bad... but thanks a lot for your help!
does it still work with snow leopard?
I don't know if it works with Snow Leopard because my son broke my cellphone and I bought another one :-(
Do you still have the plugin by any chance? That site seems be down for a while, and I really would like to do this... Thanks for your help!
Sadly, no. As I said before, my son broke my phone and since then I upgraded to snow leopard. So, I don't have the plugin available. Sorry. But search google for it. Chances are you'll find it somewhere else.
merci beaucoup
The plugin seems to work with Snow Leopard 10.6 (if it doesn't, I'll let you know in a few minutes). It's easy to install, except that when you replace the MetaClasses.plist file it asks you to, (a) iSync can't be running, and (b) you have to overwrite writing permissions with your password. And, of course, save a copy of the original file, just in case. Thank you!
Is there a way to sync messages on your 2630 with the mac?
I am using Leopard 10.5.8
Sorry, Venkatesh. Not that I know off.
@Antonio: I seemed to have downloaded a software that promises to do that, will update you if it works.
Great, thanks Venkatesh :)
Venkatesh, i am waiting for ur update.
I just followed the instructions and it worked like a charm. Only problem was that I have 3 calendars on my iCal and I only wanted 1 of them, but I could not deselect 1 that I didn't want.
i can get it working with my my Mac os X 10.5.8. last time i can get it to work. however i forgotten what mac os did i use.
any help??
Kindly help me. My Mac version is 10.6.3
with the "novamedia" plugin it still works for me. nokia 2630 / SL10.6.5
having contact pictures however crashes the sync, unless they were taken ON the phone and not added in address book.
James Lloyd's method doesn't work with isync 3.1. I accidentally found a way to get around it. follow James Lloyd's method and find MetaClasses.plist. copy it to desktop. Open it with TextEdit. Use Command+F and replaces every 6131 with 2630. save the file. copy the file back to the directory where you find it. Walla!
great, really it works! thanks, i'm an odd mac user with an old mobile phone, and you can solve my doubts... ;)
Thanks for the tip and I followed the instructions; I used the 6131 folder to change the text from 6131 to 2630, and I also renamed this folder to 2630 after saving that .plist file. I launched i Sync again and it communicated with the little phone. I found that it wouldn't merge data, so I deleted all the contacts off the phone and imported data from Address Book and that was fine. I am still working on the iCal side of things, though.
